Patricia Kavanagh
Patricia Kavanagh is a traditional painter living and working in the west of Ireland. She grew up in Salthill and from an early age was inspired to paint by the natural beauty of her surroundings. Her work today is still greatly influenced by the rugged Atlantic coastline and the wild landscapes of Connemara and the Burren.
Light, particularly the effect of light on water, plays an important role in Kavanagh's work as does her fascination with dramatic thundery skies and rough seas. Composition and colour are key when planning her work, and she often makes sketches outdoors in order to capture the true colour and feel of a place. Working primarily in oils, Kavanagh uses a variety of media for sketch books and drawings - sometimes taking photographs to use as reference.
She is influenced by the music, poetry and artists of the Romantic Period particularly Friedrich, Constable and Turner. Kavanagh hosts workshops and teaches classes on oil painting, sharing her skills, experience and techniques with her students.
Kavanagh's work can be found in collections throughout Ireland, the U.K. and U.S.A.
